Saturday, October 23, 2021 (Paducah, KY - Grand Rivers, KY (Green Turtle Bay Resort)

What a great stop in Paducah and a fairly good nights sleep.  We walked to the farmers market and purchased a few of the local baked items.  The temperature was in the 60’s and all of the natives were freezing.  LOL, I was wearing a light weight long sleeve shirt…..  Looking forward to today as we will leave the Ohio River and join the Cumberland River.  As we are cruising along, the “American Duchess” passed us going downstream.  It evidently is a boutique riverboat.

As you can see it is raining fairly hard and the forecast is to be the same all day.  There are two ways to get to Grand Rivers, KY from Paducah.  Originally we were planning on joining the Tennessee River and go through the Kentucky Lock and Dam.  However, the lock was closed because of a barge accident in it the night before.  So go to plan B!!!!  We continued on the Ohio River to the Cumberland River which was a bit farther to reach our destination but we had no choice in the matter.  Wow the current in the Cumberland River was the strongest we have experienced, plus we were going upstream.  It was interesting to see that the river itself was not very wide but very deep.  We probably passed at least 8 quarries along the way.  The equipment was huge!  I wish the pictures could do justice to the object.

We have one more lock and dam to go through which is Barkley Lock and Dam.  This was the deepest lock so far.  It reminded us of the St. Anthony Lock and Dam in downtown Minneapolis which was approximately 65 feet.   Once all of the boats were secured it filled very fast.

As soon as we are out of the lock our destination for a few days is in front of us, “Green Turtle Bay Resort”.

(Not the best picture but I was busy). It is absolutely beautiful here and a vast resort.

We both are looking forward to staying in one location for several days and have some R&R. As soon as “Our Nauti Time”was secured, we went to dinner and relaxed.  I’m thinking that this is going to be a great little stay vacation.  I was disappointed that I couldn’t book a pedicure or a massage as there were no appointments available until early in November.  Yikes!!!!
