Saturday, October 9, 2021. (Clinton, IA to Fairport, IA)

We departed Clinton thinking we would be able to reach Muscatine, IA and hookup at the marina.  However, we found out that the water level was only 2 feet at the marina.  So we stayed at a very small marina in Fairport, IA.  Not a lot of excitement other than very windy.  We secured “Our Nauti Time” and of course went to the local bar at the marina.  Guess what football game was on!!!! Hawkeyes vs. Penn State and yes we watched the entire game.  Maybe that’s why Iowa Hawkeyes won the game and are now 6-0.  LOL!!!   Basically we just watched some TV and the upcoming weather reports.  RAIN and more RAIN forecasted for Sunday all day. It felt so good to have a little sun while leaving Clinton.  We are traveling Iowa via mostly industrial scenery. Some of the barges are starting to load, but found it interesting how they fill the barge from one end to the other instead of balancing out the weight.  Sometimes as we get close to a Lock and Dam I am amazed not only how they operate but their appearance.  This picture is of Lock and Dam 15.  Just think, we started out at Lock and Dam 3 in Red Wing.  Normally we are finding that the tugs are pushing 12 to 15 barges at a time.  It has been fun to talk to the tug captains as they are such a hoot with their southern accents.  For the ladies reading my blog, I just had to include the pictures that I found in the ladies restroom.

LOL!!!  However, I was not greeted by them.  So disappointed!!

  1. Sounds intersting, and fun and things are going well. 2 ft, is too shallow...
