As we travel from LaCrosse, WI to McGregor, IA I am amazed how hilly Iowa is. Go figure!!!! We did have an experience in Lock and Dam 8 that frankly, I hope never happens again. We were trying to hold the lines but the turbulence was so bad we couldn’t hold on. Thus, we floated but it was still a struggle keeping Nauti Time in control. We didn’t panic and Captain Jim kept everything intact and we survived without a hitch. Even the Dock Master had never seen the turbulence this bad. Lucky us!!!!! We really haven’t had a great deal of sunny weather but a light jacket has been all we need.
We arrived in McGregor, IA and found that our accommodation was without electricity. But of course, the generator gave us all the conveniences of home. However during the night we shut her down and opened the windows. Not much to say about where we tied up, just a dock and 4 large barges through the night and at least 1,000 trains. You get the picture!!!! LOL!!!
We walked to town for an early dinner and found Blackwater Bar and Grill where Jim was ecstatic to get an Iowa breaded pork tenderloin. The Bar is know for its bbq and has won many awards. I however, found a tee shirt to remember the Bar forever; “I Love a Sweet Rack”.
We found our way back to the boat but have no TV. What will we do?? That’s a rapp!!!
YES to Iowa tenderloins!!! You might have quite a selection of t-shirts by the time you get home Nancy!! Glad all is well!!!

Way to go friends you are becoming naturals on handling miss nauti time. Enjoy the tenderloins and a few cold cocktails. You earned it.
ReplyDeleteBill Parker. Very glad you didn't panic in the lock and dam but I bet it was very exciting. I see you can fish from the docks and it show with you probably would catch (no walleyes).
ReplyDeleteWe have been through that area many times. McGregor is a cool little town. Hiking at Pikes Peak is amazing and yes that area on the Mississippi is very European like.
