Wednesday, November 10, 2021 (Tensaw River Anchorage - Grand Mariner Marina, Mobile, AL)

It’s a BIG day and we had a great nights sleep.  We are starting our last part of the adventure on rivers.  Everyone is up and ready at 7:00 and our float was easy with nothing really interesting to look at along the way.  But I was able to capture this large power plant.  I just liked the shadows of the buildings on the water with the tall smoke stacks.

The water is not as brown and is getting much wider.  Our first sight of downtown Mobile, Alabama.

However that was only the beginning of many amazing sights!!!!  We floated by the cruise ship terminal, unfortunately there were no ships at the dock.  This is an ocean oil rig.  It’s huge!!

Not very many container ships……

The chatter on the radio from the loopers really became busy as we got closer to the Alabama Shipyard. Further on land is the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park which would be interesting to visit.  But next to that is Austal USA.  Austal is an advanced ship manufacturer under contract with the US Navy to build the advanced combatant Littoral Combat Ship and Expeditionary Fast Transport Ship.  (Yes I researched that).

Finally Mobile Gulf.  We feel like we graduated from river float to big time salt water.  LOL!!!  This isn’t Lake Minnetonka…………..

Jim has talked a lot about the crab pots and the danger of getting too close.  The danger would be getting caught in the lines attaching the pot as well as the metal of the pot.  This could damage our props and drive shaft.  We weren’t exactly sure what to look for but as we entered the channel to the marina we started to see this.

Yep, that’s a crab pot all in a line…..  Yikes, so small you really need to be looking at all times.  However, once you spot them just follow their line.

We made it to Grand Mariner Marina and this is it!!!!!

Take a look at the two signs on the front of the building.

The location hasn’t bounced back since Katrina.  So sad!!!

Docktails started at 5:00 sharp at The Mariner Restaurant. There were at least 50 loopers there.  We kept adding tables to tables until we ran out of room.  LOL!!!!  It was nice to catch up and meet new loopers and hear their stories.  Dinner was good but after more conversation it was time to go back to the boat and watch some TV.  Let’s see what tomorrow brings..
