Wednesday-Monday - February 23-28, 2022 (Legacy Harbour Marina, Ft.Myers, FL)

Since Jim was released from the hospital, we have been taking it easy and exploring southwest Florida.  We had so much fun meeting up with Rick and Kathy Zib for dinner on Wednesday, February 23.  We dined at Ford’s Garage and really enjoyed catching up.  They were vacationing here for several weeks then heading back to Minnesota.  Thank you Rick and Kathy for taking back some of our articles (long sleeved items) that we clearly don’t need now.  LOL!!!!

It still is a highlight to watch the sunset from the back of the boat.



 Taking a walk in downtown Ft. Myers for lunch and maybe a lunchtail at 10 Twenty Five Bar.  LOL!!


Got to dip the toes in the water and walk the beach!  



We invited Eugene and June (Barefoot Jones) over for appetizers then they took us to a new dining experience, the Cork Soakers Wine Bar and Deck. Again great food….

Out exploring the area.  We heard about this festival and decided to see what it was all about.  Yes, the Seafood and Music Festival in Ft.  Myers.  


There were so many choices for seafood whether it be grilled, poached and fried.  Plus Cajon seafood.  Delicious!!!! You can only eat so much and the music was just okay so off we went to the next stop.

Explored the beach in Cape Coral and stopped to have a refreshment at the Boat House Tiki Bar.



What a relaxing day in the warm weather.  So excited to meet with Marty and Kim for dinner tonight at Lobster Lady.  A new experience for them but we had stopped there one other time.  Not disappointed!!!!!

We need to be on the beach and in the water.  Of course, it’s spring break and hard to find parking in order to get to the beach.  So, we drove to Naples City Beach and lucked out all around.  Sat on the beach and got our fill of Vitamin D for the day.






What a wonderful day.  Back at the boat where this is our view.

It was such a stressful day, we are relaxing on the boat while dinner is cooking.  LOL!!!!!

Tuesday, October 12, 2021 (Keokuk, IA -Rockport, IL) Good morning from Keokuk, IA. The sun is coming up and going to shine all day. Here is a better picture of the Yacht Club and I couldn’t resist the baby tug.   Right out of Keokuk is Lock and Dam 19 which was the most interesting and deepest lock so far.  As we approached the Lock and Dam there was a huge brick building standing in the river.  The name of the building was “Keokuk Plant”.  We tried to find historical information about it but came up empty.  However, we took a guess that before the Lock and Dam was built the structure housed an electrical generating plant on the river.  So unusual to see a big building out in the river with no access in or out.  As we look at the lock the gates were very different then we had ever seen.  It looked like a fence that would be similar to what you would see in a back yard.  But you could see through the gate and watch the water rescind or rise. ...

Thursday, October 21, 2021 (Modoc, IL - outside Cairo, IL) We had a fantastic nights sleep last night.  No barge traffic through the lock and dam all night.  We are still boating with the same 3 other boats and know that it will be a long day.  Jim checks the oil most mornings down in the engine room.  If the boat needs more oil all he needs to do is place a hose into the oil container, push a lever for which engine needs oil and turn a pump on!!!!  No muss, no fuss!!! We progressed down river all day with hardly anything to report.  Nothing but barges tied to the side of the water.  However we are seeing more and more dredging equipment.  The trees are green but I am missing my favorite season at home with the fall colors and falling leaves. Welcome aboard “Our Nauti Time”!! Once we decided to tackle part of the Great Loop, we realized that our 26 foot cabin cruiser was certainly too small to live on for several months.  So, the search began!!  Most of you are aware that this is exactly what Jim loves to do…..SHOP and NEGOTIATE.  I was thinking that he would be showing me boats that were about 34 feet.  Yes, I was completely wrong!!!  Next thing I knew we were taking a little road trip to LaCrosse, WI just to look at this beauty.  She is a 43 foot Silverton Yacht that we ended up purchasing in the fall of 2020.  This past spring we drove her to Treasure Island Casino Marina where we spent a great deal of time this summer.  It has been a huge learning experience going from 1 engine to 2 and having a control panel taller than our youngest grandchild.  We were so lucky to have made many wonderful new friends on B Dock and shared unforgettable memories.  It was sad to say goodby...
